One of the many activities and traditions in which Heathfield takes great pride is raising money to support charities. Each year at least eight different charitable organisations are supported. A School Charity for the year is nominated by a student vote: recent school charities include Walking with the Wounded and JDRF. Each House within the school, of which there are four, also nominates a House Charity which tends to have a personal connection to a student from within that House. In addition, each year since its foundation Heathfield has raised money for the Sisters of St. Saviour’s Priory, who work with the most vulnerable people in London. Other charities regularly supported include Flip’s Fund which was set up in the memory of a former student, and Cancer Research.
The students raise money through a variety of fun and sometimes gruelling activities. Our main charity event is the annual Christmas Fair lovingly known as Nicky Stalls, organised entirely by the girls and the Heads of Houses. This takes place on the last Saturday in November and gathers together House stalls as well as independent stall holders. It is deemed by all who attend to be a wonderful occasion and in 2015 raised over £15,000. Other events include the Lower School Sponsored Swim, Wear It Pink Day, Shop for a Family of Four and a variety of Bake Sales and Car Wash extravaganzas. We are also fortunate enough to be visited by representatives from each charity who come to the school to give a presentation about their work, giving us all an extra incentive to raise the much-needed funds and encourage the girls to see the link between our collective effort and the tangible results achieved through sheer determination.
