Heathfield School, Music, Talent, Performance, Concert, EntertainmentThe concert started off with a violin concerto performed by Janet Liepa, the Form V housemistress and Miss Bentley, a violin teacher, accompanied by the magic of Miss Kong, Assistant Director of Music. A horn concerto later, saw a guest of ours arrive with a rather peculiar instrument; the alphorn. This is something which they use to call in the cows in Switzerland. We then listened to a soothing cello concerto and two pieces on the harp, performed by the very talented Miss Popa. Soon afterward our Religious Studies teacher, Mrs Reeves, sang Songbird which was incredible. Next we had Gabriel’s Oboe performed by Miss Reynolds, our Director of Sport, accompanied by a string quartet. Then we had a cool upbeat Spanish drum and guitar song which was very creative. This was performed excellently with some wonderful drumming from Mr Bulford. Then there was an acapella performance by Mrs Dance, Miss Kong and Mrs Reeves singing Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy accompanied by Mr Snow on the trumpet, Mr Charlton on the double bass and Mr Bulford on the drums. Miss Kong and Mr Bulford then played The Tom and Jerry Show whilst a clip was being played on a large screen in the background. It was like watching it for real on TV! Then we had a jam packed item, with the staff orchestra playing the Blue Danube on an assortment of instruments. Dr Harden did a guitar solo and Miss Reynolds did a saxophone solo which was a lovely surprise. They topped it off with a medley of percussion which was very funny. The second time that they played it the percussion instruments were handed out, and the whole audience was standing up and dancing. The whole evening was very enjoyable and it was lovely to see the academic staff joining in, making the night very fun indeed.
