Classics Lecture, Homer’s Odyssey

By 04/03/2014 No Comments

Subjects ranged from the structure of the poem to the role of the female characters with some amusing discussions throughout including a debate as to who should play Odysseus in a film (with the lecturer having already rejected Sean Bean). The girls learned some interesting ideas such as why Homer might have portrayed the Greek gods in such a fashion as well as whether Odysseus was a good hero and whether he ‘grows up’ over the course of the text. Overall, the lectures were very beneficial and the girls will be able to use what they learned to shape their own arguments.
