Congratulations to the new Head Girl team, Claudia, Auriel and Louise

It is always a privilege to welcome the new Head Girl team and all the new Prefects who were elected just before October half term.

Many congratulations to Claudia who was elected Head Girl and to Auriel and Louise who were elected Deputy Head Girls. They were awarded their red ties, a badge of honour at Heathfield and a sign of responsibility, from the outgoing Head Girl team in Assembly.

The application process at Heathfield is quite different to many other schools. We believe that it is vital that the young women who apply for these leadership roles are introduced to the idea of rigorous external recruitment processes early.

Students start by writing an application letter along with an action plan to the Headmistress. The action plan details the specific initiatives the girls wish to bring in over their tenure, if elected to the Head Girl team. Then they have interviews with the Head of Sixth Form and the Headmistress as well as the outgoing Head Girl Team. As if that was not challenging enough, the Head Girl team candidates and the candidates for the roles of House Captain, give a speech at a hustings for the entire School. Voting then takes place, by both pupils and staff.

This year, the challenge of doing this remotely only added extra spice to the proceedings!
