Prep Science Workshop

We were delighted to welcome thirty Year 5 Godstowe pupils to our Science Workshop ‘Learn how to Fly’…

…on Saturday 16 September. We were also pleased to have their Head of Science, Head of Middle School and their Form Tutor and Science teacher attend. When dropping off their daughters,  parents lingered to watch the colourful hot air balloon inflate on the main Lacrosse pitch, tethered by three vehicles including the Headmistress’s car! It was a spectacular sight and everyone was very excited about going up in a hot air balloon for the first time.

The girls were split into three groups, one going to a Science Lab in the SMAT, one to the area outside the Sports Hall and the other to the hot air balloon to fly. The girls had a wonderful time learning about lift, propulsion, thrust and drag using a wide selection of hands-on experiments – some of which were rather loud! The day completed with a delicious themed tea in the Lower VI common room which parents collecting their daughters were invited to join. Happy parents and girls departed with a Heathfield goody bag and we hope to welcome them back to Heathfield very soon.
