Form I recently took part in a mini field study within our School grounds to learn fieldwork techniques to support their development of key geographical skills including mapping, surveying and observation. The students drew field sketches and took measurements in small groups outside the classroom block, which they later used to create a map.
Environmental quality and mood mapping surveys were carried out at different locations around the grounds. Students used their data to created colour-coded maps to illustrate their results. The students had a lot of fun trying out new techniques and deepening their understanding of the skills geographers use to investigate the world.
