Music is a particular strength at Heathfield and the opportunities for experienced and novice musicians and singers are extensive.

We have a Senior Choir for Form III upwards, a Junior Choir for Forms I and II, an Orchestra, a Woodwind Ensemble, a Brass Ensemble, an A Cappella Group and a Band. Students of all standards are welcomed and there is a busy concert schedule, providing all students with opportunities for public performance. The music department has a state of the art 24 track digital recording studio including iMacs and numerous music practice rooms.

Alongside curriculum music lessons, which all students take in Forms I – III, students can also learn one or more musical instruments, and many have individual singing lessons with specialist instrument and voice teachers. We also provide an impressive range of lessons taught by visiting peripatetic teachers. These include the piano, guitar, strings, woodwind, brass, percussion and the harp; students are encouraged to take music examinations and involve themselves with the different orchestras and musical groups on offer. ABRSM (Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music) exams and Trinity College London music exams are offered and students are supported in preparing for and taking these exams.

The Choir enjoy a biennial European tour.
