ACEN Conference 2025

In October, students from Form IV to Upper Sixth joined other schools from around the country at Eton College for the ACEN 5th Anniversary Conference, a landmark event dedicated to exploring anti-racism, diversity and inclusion in independent schools.

The conference offered a rich programme of interactive workshops, student-led panels and thought-provoking discussions, all set within a welcoming and respectful environment. A highlight of the day was the keynote address delivered by Lord Simon Woolley, whose powerful message on equality and representation set an inspiring tone for the event. Throughout the day, students engaged in scenario-based activities, shared personal experiences, and explored practical strategies for addressing racism in schools. The sessions encourage open dialogue, critical thinking and collaboration, with a strong emphasis on the importance of student voice in shaping inclusive school cultures.

Sofia, a Lower Sixth student said “I enjoyed the day as it touched on lots of topics which are not normally spoken about and were addressed in an open and non-judgemental way. I really felt understood and more confident as the day encouraged diversity, not conformity”.

We are immensely proud of the way our students represented Heathfield. Their enthusiasm, thoughtful contributions and commitment to promoting inclusion and equity were evident throughout the day. They returned with renewed confidence, deeper understanding and a shared determination to drive positive change within our school and beyond.
