Lent Term Show Jumping and Polo

Both Liberty  and Matilda were entered in to 2 show jumping classes. First was the 80cm scurry, an event over an 80 cm high course and against the clock, so fastest clear round wins. An unlucky draw meant that Heathfields riders were first to jump in both classes, which is always a disadvantage. Matilda went first in the scurry and did an amazing clear round on her new horse Billy. Libby went next and took a few seconds off the time riding her pony Guinness.

In the second class, the 95cm, the course was over 14 jumps of varying difficulty. Both girls did incredible clear rounds and when the rosettes were presented, Libby had come first in both classes and Matilda 4th in the scurry. Fantastic results for them both especially after our inaugural team training at Merrist Wood on Wednesday. F

For once the weather was sunny at the SUPA National Girls’ School Championships held at Longdole Polo Club near Gloucester. Heathfield sent two teams: Heathfield Rubies; Ellie, Emily and Isabella who came third in the top division, and Heathfield Sapphires; Kitty, Angelina, Emma, Honor and Tilly who were placed second in the intermediate division. A great result for both teams.

Heathfield’s polo players took part in their first friendly polo chukkas against some of the Eton players. A round –robin of 3 chukkas were played and the stronger Eton players made the most of their age and experience. Heathfield did very well and we took the challenge with gusto. Après polo with crisps and refreshments was enjoyed by all!
