Our Drama Scholars, along with Lower Sixth Drama and English students, enjoyed a wonderful trip to London to see An Ideal Husband at the Lyric Theatre, Hammersmith. There was a real buzz amongst the students before the show and even more so on the journey home afterwards.
The students thoroughly enjoyed this fresh and lively new take on Oscar Wilde’s classic play, particularly the humour, music, movement and vibrant, quirky style of performance. Many were fascinated by the inventive staging and the blend of comedy with more serious political themes. Discussions continued long after the curtain came down, with students enthusiastically sharing their thoughts on favourite characters, standout actors and memorable moments from the production.
It was especially interesting to hear students offer their own thoughtful critiques of the acting, storytelling and directorial choices, showing growing confidence in discussing live theatre as young practitioners and audience members. An evening filled with laughter, discussion, creativity and a shared love of theatre.
