Students also had the opportunity to try new subjects offered at A Level as taster lessons including Economics, Politics and Psychology. In addition, they spent a morning trying out a variety of cross curricular subjects ranging from Forensic Science investigating blood splatters and bullet trajectories to an expert led Drama and Classics workshop. Across other subjects students have experienced escape rooms in English, marketing strategies in Business and using language skills to cook in French and converse with native Spanish speakers. In addition, they have tried their hand at more formal cooking in the Leiths School of Food and Wine building making pasta.  

On Wednesday, students went to Wokingham Waterside Centre for an afternoon of team building along with a friendly dragon boat racing competition between the Houses. They had the opportunity to try paddleboarding and a katacanoe, with six in a boat rowing cooperatively.  

The programme also has a strong university focus, and the students enjoyed an informative and interactive talk with Mr Jon Cheek of Unidays which was both useful and thought-provoking. The students also produced presentations on one of three topic areas, university, apprenticeships, or gap years. These are on display in the Cadogan Sixth Form Centre for all students to view.

The teams set out from Deer Leap near Lyndhurst after a briefing from our D of E course director and our trainer, about the importance of remaining hydrated and drinking regularly throughout the day, as well as taking breaks in the shade to help remain cool. After seven hours of walking through the beautiful countryside with wild ponies and cattle, the teams arrived in good spirits at New Park Barn campsite, set up their tents and cooked supper before settling down for the night. 

All teams were up early and departed the campsite by 06:00 having had breakfast and packed away their tents. A well-earned ice cream awaited the teams at Red Shute campsite after nine hours of walking. Despite some weary bodies, everyone was in good humour and ready for supper and bed before the final day of walking. Day three saw another early start to avoid the heat, but the knowledge of completing the expedition appeared to put a spring in their steps as they departed the campsite at 07:00. By 13:00 all teams arrived at Long Cross car park and despite feeling exhausted and a little leg weary, a real sense of accomplishment was evident.

 Cordovans celebrate the annual Courtyard Festival and Contest, which is when the beautiful courtyards of their homes are open to the public. Everyone has the chance to view the architectural treasures that are typical of Cordoba – the so-called Patios. And so, we did! 

 The students tasted some of the wide variety of dishes Cordoba has to offer. The Cordovan gastronomy and restaurants are rich in the history of the different civilizations that have passed through these lands. Students also enjoyed a tour of La Juderia (the historic centre) in a horse-drawn carriage and were serenaded by La Tuna, a group of university musicians.  

 Most importantly, students took every opportunity to practice the language.

It was amazing hearing the Old Girls sharing stories about their lives, careers and families and searching for their names carved in the Chapel, a wonderful Heathfield tradition continued to this day.

This year we celebrated an incredibly special reunion for the Class of 1970, it was an honour to have hosted you all.

Heathfield began the Coronation celebrations by gathering as a community in Chapel with a service of prayers and thanksgiving for the King’s life of service. It was followed by a special lunch which included the winning Coronation dish, quiche. Afterwards, pupils were set a variety of photo challenges to capture the Coronation in their own inventive style, which produced some interesting and creative results.  Finally, an afternoon tea was enjoyed by students and staff, with students receiving their commemorative Coronation badges.
