Pastoral Care

Pastoral Care

The welfare of each individual girl is our primary concern and we have a team of pastoral staff, both academic and non-academic, assigned to each year group.

Each girl is a member of a House: Austen, de Valois, Seacole or Somerville and is under the care of a Head of House. The Head of House is the first point of contact for girls and parents on all issues. Girls also have an academic personal tutor who is a member of their house whom they see every day.

There is also a Housemistress for each year group and the Housemistresses are responsible for the care of the girls within the boarding environment. Our Housemistresses create a homely atmosphere and operate an open door policy. They communicate closely and regularly with the Head of House to ensure continuity of care for every girl.

The medical needs of the girls are in the hands of our two resident nursing sisters who provide 24-hour care. Each girl is also registered with the school doctor who visits the school twice a week.

The school's pastoral team includes the Chaplain who is responsible for the spiritual welfare of the girls. There is also an independent school counsellor who visits the school once a week.

Some girls in Lower VI Form / Year 12 are chosen to be Form Prefects and their study bedrooms are in the same area as the girls whom they are helping to look after. They have the role of a peer mentor.

We are a happy school with a cosy, caring, home-from-home feel.
